4th Rockingham Tap, Swinton

Presentation of the certificate TBA, hopefully in September'

Nominations for the Autumn Pub of the Season competition deferred until the September meeting, in view of the low turnout of members.

The next survey trip would be on Friday 8th September, details to be confirmed.

Pubs news: Two more micropubs have been granted conditionally approved planning permission, as of August 11th. The Rawmarsh Tap, 79a, Kilnhurst Rd., Rawmarsh has been given permission to open from noon to 10,30pm daily. This is in a former pet grooming salon. The other one is at Bramley; more details are awaited. Likely opening dates are, so far, unknown. The Homestead has joined the Three Cranes Inn and Stag in accepting CAMRA 50p vouchers. Unfavourable reports have been received recently regarding beer quality at both the Stag and the Yellow Lion in Aston. Carlton Park Hotel has reopened, but purely as a hotel with no food, drink or other facilities being offered so far. Steptoes in Kimberworth has been successful with its application to extend opening hours, opening until 11pm Sunday to Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday. The Plough at Wingfield will require a new leaseholder as Brian is leaving. Hopefully this will not affect the real ale. Despite rumours, the Chantry BLO confirmed that the Cutlers Arms is continuing as normal, following its sale to the Council.

Pubs Protection Officer: Nothing to report.

Communications Officer: Everything is up to date and continuing as normal.

Social: Position vacant. Nothing planned.

AOB  The BLO for Chantry said that further specials would continue to be brewed alongside the regular beers with Styrian Dragon the next. The Beer Tasting Coordinator said that the tasting at the Chantry Inn was only attended by six tasters. However, it proved very popular with locals in the pub who expressed interest in joining CAMRA.

In view of the low turnout, it was decided not to hold a raffle.

The meeting closed at 8.40pm.

Time, Date and Venue of next Meeting: 8pm, Wednesday 20th September Venue TBC, probably New York Tavern.

Presentation of the award for Branch Club of the Year 2023 was made to the Phoenix. The vice-chairman thanked Kylie and the team for their hospitality.

Pubs Campaign Coordinator

The Pubs Campaigns Coordinator presented the full list pubs and clubs for which scores were received for the 2023 GBG. Following a request from the Chairman to reduce the number of awards, a discussion ensued with the following awards being decided: Overall Pub of the Year - Steptoe’s, Runner-up Overall POTY - Wath Tap, Traditional POTY - Cutlers Arms, Runner-up Traditional POTY - New York Tavern, Club of the Year - Wickersley Cricket Club, Most Improved Pub of the Year - Bridge Inn. As the first two were both Micropubs, it was decided not to present Micropubs awards as such. With only around six clubs eligible it was also decided not to award a runner-up Club of the Year award. The awards will need requesting from HQ and dates fixed up to make the awards.

Nominations were called for the Summer Pub of the Season. These were as follows: George & Dragon, Wentworth, Horseshoe, Harley, Milton Arms, Greasbrough, Plough, Wingfield. Scores required by the July Branch Meeting. Two of the nominated pubs were visited on the last survey trip and the other two will be visited on a future survey trip.
